Looks nice! How deep is the substrate?

THe substrate is pretty shallow. It is just even with the top edge of the plastic bottom rim. Probably 3/4" is a good guess.

Here's another kind of cool picture from last week. This is an open spathe of the large Anubias barteri that I removed from the 55-gallon to another tank a little while ago because it was getting too big.

It is substantially larger than the spathe of A. barteri var. nana (which has bloomed for me many times), but otherwise similar.

If you look at the pictures that I have of this plants from a few weeks ago you can see the unopened developing spathe.

Oh I haven't been back to this this thread in a while. Now I have a quick update. I recently moved this tank out of our house and put it back together at a local garden center shop.

Here is a better view of the tank.

The plants have been in there for a few days. I only added the hardscape (stones and manzanita driftwood) last night. I have planned it as a simple and (I hope) undemanding system. I replaced most of the crypts with somewhat more resilient houseplant-type tropicals, including Spathiphyllum and Dieffenbachia. I will add fish probably tomorrow evening.
