I have been looking on craigslist and all I can find for this darn 40g breeder is people that are using them for reptiles with locking lids. I have see some 20g long tanks at petsmart in the reptile aisle and they say something like "water submersible". Should I really be worried about what I buy?

I am not sure what you are asking. Are you looking for a retile tank? Or are you looking for and aquarium?
You can use any tank for a reptile tank they make screen tops to fit any size, and they make sring loaded latches to keep the tops secure. Eric |

40 gallon breeder doesn't always refer to reptiles, a 40 would be ok if it's a full rimed tank the actual reptile tanks with the built in screen tops I wouldn't trust. I have one upstairs and the glass is thinner they are only mean to be filled with a couple inches of water.

40 g breeder are not always used for reptiles or snakes. They can still be used as plant aquariums but it is risky since the glass is a bit thinner compared to regular ones. It can only accommodate a little amount of water. If you want, you can always go for regular sized aquariums.
