Default Riparium for species catfish display

Hey everybody, I am just stopping by quick to start a new journal thread and drop off a picture.

I am starting a new setup that will be a little different from the other ripariums that I have put together. This one will use the dwarf Synodontis catfish, S. petricola, as a central theme. It will also be planted into a tank filled most of the way to the top, instead of a mostly-empty tank.

That's a 50-gallon tank that I cleared up last night with some fish shuffling.

More later.

I've heard talk about this, glad to see you getting started. I'm sure this will be a masterpiece just like all the others.

I hope to work on it some more tonight. Do you have any more new updates from your eel tank?

Here's a quick update. I added some gravel, stones and a group of Poecilia chica mollies.

I like where this is going!

What plants are you putting in the water?
Don't synodontis like Lake Tanganyika pH? 8.0 is or something?

I have a few plants in mind. I'll post some pictures and descriptions as I start putting them in there.

These catfish were raised in moderately hard water with pH 7.6. They should do Ok in this setup. I use 1/2 tapwater + 1/2 RO for most of my tanks and my parameters are similar.

The little catfish arrived the other night. Here they are, acclimating for a little while in the bag.

And here's a fat female Poecilia chica mollie.

I got the tank set up and here it is with water in it.

It's a bit more than 2/3 full. I applied a black painted background just to the portion that will be below water.

Unfortunately, I had to tear down my 65-gallon setup to make room for this new tank, so I will probably just be using that larger aquarium for growout.. I am using the same stand, filter and light fixture, so it was pretty easy to switch out the two tanks. I like the proportions of this 50 much more than for the taller 65. This is a nicer shape.

This should look awesome as is with all your other scapes you have done. May I ask though what you used on the glass to round off the edges after you took off the top brace?
