Hey Devin, I got your package today and all I can say is WOW! You have been so generous to me and I so do appreciate it. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know.
I rearranged some of the planters and got the plants you sent me planted. I will take a pic this weekend after the plants perk up alittle bit. I am going to let the Silver Tree grow alittle taller before trimming but understand what you are saying about trimming. The plants in the raft on the left are plants you sent me in the first package and I can't remember what they are because the labels got messed up. I think they are the Xanthosoma 'Dwarf Green' but when I do a search, they don't look like that so I am not sure. I put them in the raft because they had very little roots but I transfered them to a planter tonight because they had developed some roots, so I will see of they do. Again...thx so much for the awesome package of plants! Just to let you know people...this man will take care of your riparium needs. Also a side note....I lost my last Golden Ram today. I really thought that one was going to make it. I still have my 4 Jullii Cories and a few Otos.

Mark, Hey I'm glad to hear that the box found its way. It is a relief that the weather has warmed some.
I meant to send off a note earlier...i don't know if you had seen any suggestions for planting those Bacopa stems(?). I have found it best to include a generous number (6-8 stems) in each planter cup, The root end of the stem should be buried about 1" or so down in the gravel and it is also helpful to include a fertilizer tab. Oh I think that that little plant in the Nano Trellis Raft is the Dieffenbachia 'Camilla'. That is a nice one. It is best planted in a Small Hanging Planter with the bottom 1/2 or so filled with Hydroton. Sorry to hear about the loss of that last ram. How close is the nearest LFS? I wonder about a single individual of some other small cichlid to use as a centerpiece in there.

No pics to update right now but a question for those riparium specialist. In the picture below, the large tall plant in the back, has grown up to my lights. My question is, if I cut it off lets say a few leaf nodes up from the planter, should I take the cutting and put it in a raft to develop roots before putting in a planter or just sick the stem in a planter? Also, the original stem that is left planted, it should develop side shoots just as an aquarium plant would, correct? I don't want to kill this plant because it looks wonderful. I will update with some pics of it later.

Hey Mark, That plant is Asclepias 'Silky Gold'. You can cut the top right off and root it. I suggest trimming a few leaves from the base of the cutting and suspending in the water as you describe. After a few weeks you will see roots forming, at which point you can plant in another planter.
This plant tends to grow leggy, so an occasional topping is a good idea. As you suggest this treatment will encourage the plant to grow with a more bushy shape.

Well.....a long, overdue update. Things have been progressing, growing and filling in. I tried some moss on the rafts and it makes the feeling of the riparium so much more natural. Well, enough talk...pics

It is doing fine and as far as growth, it has grown some but not real fast which is ok. I have to do something with my lighting over this tank, but funds are tight at the moment. I did have (3) 15 watt bullbs over it but (2) of them the ballast has gone out so I have only (1) bulb over it at the moment. The one thing is that it does get sunlight thru a window nearby. The moss just makes the edge of the trellis look so much more natural.
